Kingdom Episode 6 Recap (Spoilers!)

This week was a little bit of a breather for everyone as this week’s episode featured all the groups participating in a Sport’s Day event! It was definitely a fun episode as everyone put aside the stress and tension of the competition and had some fun together.

This was definitely an episode I was really looking forward to as it offered us more intergroup interactions, something that we haven’t been able to see a lot in the previous episodes.

Aside from this, they also announced what will be happening for Round 3, and they also showed the rankings for Round 2.

Before we move on, you know the drill, from here on out, there will be spoilers!

Before everything, the contestants were informed of what they would be preparing for in the third round. Just like Road to Kingdom, this round will be in two parts- a collaboration stage and a group performance stage. However, unlike Road to Kingdom, the collaboration stage will be composed of the three collaboration performances- one for a vocal unit, one for a performance unit, and one for a rap unit. Each performance for the collaboration performances would be worth 5,000 points. Meanwhile, the group performance stage would follow the same voting system, except for the fact that now, we can only vote for two groups instead of three. The theme of the round is No Limit, which is quite exciting!

Ateez, who emerged in first place for the group and expert evaluation were allowed to pick who they wanted to collaborate with. Ateez chose BTOB and Stray Kids; which automatically made SF9, The Boyz and iKON teammates.

Interestingly enough during the Sport’s Day Event, the teams were divided in this way as well. Team A (Ateez, BTOB, Stray Kids) called themselves Team Mayfly, while Team B (The Boyz, iKON and SF9) called themselves The-i-9 (if you say this in Korean it really sounds cute!)

The morning event was vaulting, and it was MCed by TVZQ’s Changmin, BTOB’s Eunkwang, Stray Kids’ Changbin and Ateez’s Wooyoung. (Also, apparently good friends Changbin and Wooyoung now have an official ship name and were called in the episode as Lovey and Dovey). Everyone was looking forward to seeing BTOB’s Minhyuk vaulting skills as he has done this in the past and was good at it!

For this event, each group took turns vaulting, and whoever failed wasn’t able to go to next level. There were five levels in total, which started from 1.70 m and ended with 2.40 m. For The-i-9, only Juyeon survived until the 2.20 m vault box, and couldn’t move forward. Bang Chan surprised everyone by being the last challenger to Minhyuk, but unfortunately, both failed at it, giving the win to their combined Team Mayfly team. Some highlights included Stray Kids being called Strawberry Kids because their color coded outfits were pink; everyone shouting Q’s real name (Changmin) when he challenged the vault; and The Boyz allowing Kevin to twerk when he managed to jump over the vault. Kevin was so energetic in this round to the point that even when he failed, he still drew laughs with his energy and his poses.

After lunch, they were asked to vote for Kingdom’s Flower 4, or the top four visual kings of the cast. In fourth place was Eunkwang and Hyunjae (3 votes), third place was Sunwoo (3 votes), Felix came in at second (5 votes), and Minhyuk won the title with a total of seven votes. What was funny was that confident Sunwoo voted for himself (although Younghoon fondly called him a raccoon), Minhyuk and Felix voted for each other, and that the prize for the winner is that they would have the caption of visual king and would have CG effects of a halo around them.

The next event was “Catch the Balloon Tail” which was played in three rounds. One of the rules for this game was that if they get disconnected from each other, they have to regroup in the span of ten seconds, or else they would be out. The-i-9 managed to win the first round as Eric really went for it, and chased down Han, who was the tail for Team Mayfly. For the second set, Team Mayfly won as The-i-9 got separated several times and couldn’t regroup in ten seconds. This one was an interesting set as well as JuHaknyeon and Wooyoung, who are really good friends, were the heads. For the last set, Team Mayfly won again because The-i-9 got separated again, giving Team Mayfly the win.

The last event was a relay race in which each individual group had four runners each. For BTOB it was Minhyuk, Peniel, Eunkwang then Minhyuk again; for The Boyz, it was Eric, Hyunjae, Juyeon then Sangyeon; for Ateez, it was Hong Joong, Seonghwa, Jongho, then Wooyoung; for Stray Kids, it was Han, Felix, Seungmin, and Bangchan; for iKON it was Chan, Donghyuk, Junhoe and Song; and for SF9, it was Taeyang, Hwiyoung, Inseong then Chani.

Minhyuk, Taeyang and Bang Chan are really strong runners; while the members of The Boyz are also pretty good at this. In the end, Wooyoung and Bang Chan managed to make their groups win 1st and 2nd respectively, while Sangyeon allowed The Boyz to come in at 3rd. In 4th place was BTOB, 5th place was iKON, while 6th place went to SF9, with the members cheering Chani on all the way until the end.

With all the points tallied up, Team Mayfly took the win for the day, and everyone had fun interacting with each other, which was the whole point of the Sport’s Day Event.
